Meet the Maker Behind Maelenna’s Creations
Hi, I’m Maria Elena, the maker behind Maelenna’s Creations.
I was born in Puerto Rico and have lived in Maryland since 2003. My creative journey began in 2020, during a season when I felt the need to reinvent myself and try something completely new.
What started as an experiment slowly became something much more personal. Over time, my work found its way to wood, a material I love because it already has character before I ever touch it.
Today, Maelenna’s Creations is centered around handmade wooden earrings. Each pair begins with wood that is cut and shaped, then finished by hand through painting, embroidery, engraving, layering, or other small details depending on the design.
I’m drawn to the natural differences in wood. The grain, the tiny variations, and the handmade marks mean that no two pieces feel exactly the same. I don’t try to erase those details. They are part of what gives each pair its own personality.
Comfort matters to me just as much as appearance. I want the earrings to have presence without feeling heavy, and many designs include hypoallergenic hooks for easier everyday wear.
More than anything, I want each piece to feel personal. Not like something made to look like everything else, but like something you chose because it felt a little more like you.
Thank you for being here and for supporting handmade work. Every order allows me to keep creating, experimenting, and giving wood another story.
